Rob Carter

Rob Carter is an experienced IP adviser having worked in that specialist area for over 30 years, most of which with the Royal Dutch Shell Group. He has worked in the UK and the Netherlands where he gained significant international experience in the creation, management and exploitation of Intellectual Property assets, including through industry and academic collaborations, joint ventures, technology licensing, brand licensing and numerous M&A transactions. He also advised several in-house ‘start ups’ – small, non-core enterprises set up with spin-off or licensed-in technology – which were given limited time and resources to grow into larger ventures.

Rob was a member of Shell’s global IP leadership team and was responsible for many aspects of the management and exploitation of Intellectual Property in Shell. He also led the legal team which set up Shell Brands International AG as the legal and economic owner of the Group’s non-US trade mark assets, rearranged the intragroup trade mark licensing arrangements, and helped establish a flourishing third party brand licensing business. For 9 years he was a director of SBI.

As an independent consultant, Rob has provided consultancy services to SMEs and larger corporations in various industry sectors, including oil & gas, petrochemicals, renewable energy, medical, satellite, education and fitness.
